Join us on Wednesday, June 14th in the Flying Monkey Theatre for a showcase featuring our youth poets! This show will have several opening poets followed by two features with Lindsey Harper and Ming Li Wu. This will be a fundraiser event for both Lindsey and Ming Li to attend Brave New Voices International Youth Poetry Slam Festival in San Francisco this July. Admission is $5, but attendants are encouraged to donate more to the cause if they are able!
Lindsey Harper is a Huntsville local and the Youth Poet Coordinator for Out Loud HSV. She has been an integral member of the community and can often be found sharing her work at open mics and poetry slams. She is a member of the 2017 Real Life Poets Inc youth slam team, Know Disclaimer, out of Birmingham, AL. This will be her first trip to Brave New Voices.
Ming Li Wu is a spoken word poet who has been living in Reno since 2012. Originally from Huntsville, she just graduated from The Davidson Academy of Nevada and will be pursuing a dual degree in English and mathematics at Harvard University starting this fall. Last year, Ming Li competed in the international slam poetry festival Brave New Voices as a member of Reno’s inaugural team, the Spoken Views Youth Collective, and will be returning to the competition later this summer. Ming Li has been writing page poetry since kindergarten, but she is particularly captivated by spoken word as a mutual exchange of soul between poet and audience.
