Out Loud HSV is proud to present the first Slam 101 Workshop! Join us for this two day event on July 28 & August 4 with instructors Lynsey Bronaugh, Kimberly Casey, and TC to hone your poetry slam skills. Just bring one poem to workshop that you can read in 3 minutes or less.

On July 28th we will workshop the writing of our poems and explore how to create a compelling piece that lends itself best to the slam poetry style. Lynsey and Kimberly will lead a discussion and critique on the content and structure of each poem. We will review how each piece can best catch the attention of the audience and tell an engaging story.

Bring your revised poem on August 4 where TC and Kimberly will workshop the performance of each piece. Here we will discuss presentation, pacing, cadence, gesture, volume and more. We will go over memorization techniques, stage presence and answer questions about how to utilize these tools based on the message your poem is triyng to convey. Poems do not need to be memorized at this point, but it is advised you get comfortable reading your piece aloud.
