Out Loud Huntsville is back with a 10 spot open mic at Straight to Ale, followed by a feature with Bonnie Roberts!

Bonnie Roberts has lived her life as both a poet and poet-in-residence/teacher/professor.  Roberts has won numerous awards/honors in her career as an Alabamaian, American, and international poet: an Individual Fellowship in Literature from the Alabama State Council on the Arts; a two-week Fellowship in Verse from Poetry Ireland in Dublin; a summer National Endowment for the Humanities Scholarship in Paris; a J. William Fulbright Scholarship to Turkey; and an Alabama Book of the Year Award.  Her latest poetry collection, Dusting for Prints, was published in Wales by Annie Pelleschi, long-time keeper of the Dylan Thomas childhood home in Swansea.  A previous collection was published in a national archiving of American poets by Pudding House. She is perhaps most proud of her inclusion in the first all-women's anthology in Alabama, Contemporary Women Poets of Alabama by Druid Press.  In addition to her four collections of poetry and inclusion in dozens of literary magazines and anthologies, in 2025, Roberts completed her memoirs after ten years of writing: Every Speck: The Mythology of a Southern Poet. She has taught poetry/creative writing from kindergarten through graduate school courses at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, as well as teaching English and French at Decatur High School and Lee High School. She is also the owner and publisher at her micro-press, Mule on a Ferris Wheel Press, thus far publishing the works of Harry Moore, Jimmy Robinson, and Jennifer Horne.  She is the mother of Jennifer Elizabeth Roberts, whom she considers her greatest accomplishment.

Join us on March 15 at The Speakeasy at Straight to Ale. Doors/Signup at 6 PM, and the show will start promptly at 6:30 PM. Sign up and share your poetry, short stories, a piece of fiction, or any form of literary wordy goodness! Readers will get 3 minutes to share their work, please respect the time limit. Note that there will be only 10 spots this month to accommodate for the featured performer.
