Out Loud Huntsville is back, kicking off 2025 with a 10 spot open mic at Straight to Ale, followed by a feature with S. Hazen Guthrie!

S. Hazen Guthrie debuted her first book of poetry in 2024, we held our breath, the birds and I, published by Finishing Line Press. She is the author of Shakespeare in the Classroom, The City Shakespeare Projects, and editor of acting editions: Much Ado About Nothing, Othello, Richard II, King Lear, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Macbeth, Julius Caesar, The Twelfth Night, and Romeo & Juliet for TWELFTH NIGHT, The Theatre Company. Guthrie is a stage director, dance & fight choreographer, and specializes in Shakespeare production and training: Alabama Shakespeare Festival, Steppenwolf Theatre Co., Chicago Shakespeare, Sundog Theater-NYC, Stage One-Louisville Children’s Theatre, Arrow Rock Lyceum. Guthrie is a Teaching Artist for the Alabama State Council for the Arts, the Tennessee Arts Commission, and, for POETRY OUT LOUD, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation.

Join us on January 19th at The Speakeasy at Straight to Ale. Doors/Signup at 6 PM, and the show will start promptly at 6:30 PM. Sign up and share your poetry, short stories, a piece of fiction, or any form of literary wordy goodness! Readers will get 3 minutes to share their work, please respect the time limit. Note that there will be only 10 spots this month to accommodate for the featured performer.
