Joan 'Lyric' Leslie is the epitome of what it means to be "more black girl than magic". Her book, My Blackness Rhymes with Joy, is a journey to justice through healing and self-love. She uses comedy, poetry and story-telling to bring a narrative of joy to the black experience. Her work has been featured on: * Button Poetry * All Def Poetry * Homegrown poetry * Write About Now Lyric is the 2017 and 2018 Queen of the South grand slam champion. She is her mama’s favorite poet, AND most importantly she’s a cosmetology school dropout, so she’s hoping this whole poetry thing works out.
Then we will have our first preliminary slam to determine who will be on our 2019 Slam Team! 12 Poets enter, 6 will move on to finals to battle it out for the top 5 spots.
